Monster is a new type of book for book club. This book is much more dark then the other books we have previously read. So....... WHAT DO YOU THINK!!!???!!!
As far as Monster goes, I agree. The book is dark and I can't relate to it much. I hope the second half of the book makes me feel more sympathetic toward the main character. I suspect it will. At the halfway point, we were just getting the idea that he might not be guilty.
Also, I find the screenplay format a bit distracting when reading it as a book. I definitely don't count this book as a favorite of our book club so far. I much prefer Three Cups of Tea and Flipped. I hope I change my mind...
I really enjoyed our discussion about the first half of the book. Talking about the difference between "guilty", "not guilty" and "innocent" make me think more about Steve's motivation. He's definitely not "innocent" but that doesn't necessarily make him "guilty".
I to found our disscusion over guilty or not guilty very interesting. I feel that it really opened my eyes to what others think of people. the phrase don't judge a book by its cover applies here.
